Grave Waiting
poem by e.e.cane
Jan. 4, 2021
came across centuries
time enough spells
death
every action swift flutterings
memory flash
poet’s witness
just read the ashes
shadows over humanity
creep, and i stumble
weep at the poverty of
wonder
children huddle against heaven’s
siege
the faithful brand upon them
sorrows to release into
the silence,
the pitying night
i'll admit the forgiven,
their grave
waiting
